A SHORT HISTORY
Councilman Scott Black took office in 2017 and has led a dramatic turnaround of our great City. Now, Scott wants to elevate his service to the office of Mayor.
With the support of outgoing Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown and his Council colleagues, Scott is prepared to lead North Las Vegas to even greater heights - improving our quality of life and keeping us safe.
Scott Black was elected in June 2017 to represent residents of Ward 3 in North Las Vegas. He was re-elected to a second term in 2022. Scott is a native of Southern Nevada. He was born in Henderson and spent the majority of his childhood in North Las Vegas, attending Lincoln Elementary, Jim Bridger Junior High and Rancho High schools.
As a youth, Scott was involved in sports, Boy Scouts and student government, serving as senior class president. One of his cherished experiences as a teen was a school trip to Washington, D.C. Early in life, Scott developed a love of country and democracy and an appreciation and respect for the delicate balance of government.
After high school, Scott attended college for one year, then accepted a call to serve his church as a missionary in Oakland, California for two years. Upon his return, he resumed his schooling at UNLV, graduating with a bachelor's degree in communication studies with an emphasis on public relations and advertising. He continued his studies, earning a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.
While attending UNLV, Scott began dating Leana Harper, also a native of North Las Vegas and a Rancho High graduate. The two have been married for 33 years and are the proud parents of a daughter, Kallie, her husband Cameron and 8 month old granddaughter Lillie who also live in North Las Vegas.
Scott is committed to service in the community and has served for 20 years as a Boy Scout leader. He also is very active in serving as a youth leader for his church. He enjoys camping and hiking with his family, and is an avid bicyclist and vintage Volkswagen enthusiast. Scott is proud to call North Las Vegas his hometown and is excited to serve the residents and businesses of North Las Vegas as the next Mayor.
